This past Saturday, Old Mill Farm in Durham came alive with the sounds of a fall celebration: children giggling as they met the farm animals, families gathering to toast marshmallows, and pages turning in small, eager hands.

Book Harvest has been named a 2026 INDY Best Of winner and is advancing to the Best of the Best of the Triangle round!

Book Harvest and Durham Public Schools kicked off a historic month for Books for K, marking the first time the program will reach every kindergartner across all 32 DPS elementary schools.

This October, every kindergartner in Durham Public Schools will choose 10 brand-new books to take home and keep. Book Harvest and Durham Public Schools (DPS) are partnering to bring Books for K to all 32 DPS elementary schools, the first time the program has reached every kindergartner in the district.

Wayne, Robeson, and Scotland counties, along with a fourth county to be announced, will connect families with Books from Birth, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, and The Basics Insights through a partnership funded by The Leon Levine Foundation.

I manage our Family Space and all of our Family Space programming. So that includes our bilingual story times, our kids book club, and then just welcoming families in, making sure that they know what Book Harvest is and what we provide, and making sure that the kids find good books and have a good time, and the family's safe.

At Book Harvest, our culture has always been built on something simple but powerful: people who show up fully, again and again, for our families and for each other. Few people embody that spirit more than Tabitha Blackwell.

Book Harvest’s 6th annual Summer Block Party is a free community-wide event celebrating summer and books. The afternoon will include family activities and entertainment, highlighted by an abundance of free children’s books for every child—from infants to high schoolers—to take home and keep forever (there will be 15,000 books to choose from this year!)

Monday was a day to remember! At Book Harvest's 15th Annual Dream Big Book Drive & Community Celebration, our incredible community brought in 22,861 books in just 3 hours!

Dream Big is Book Harvest’s signature community book drive and celebration, bringing families together around stories, choice, and the simple magic of growing up surrounded by books. It’s a day designed for families and volunteers, powered by generosity, and rooted in the belief that every child deserves an abundant home library.

Book Harvest just announced that the bioMérieux Endowment Fund for Education has selected Book Babies Durham for a three-year philanthropic investment totaling EUR 197,953.
