Today we celebrated one of our own: Alisa Miller.
Alisa first became part of the Book Harvest family when her son joined Book Babies in 2017, our birth-to-five literacy program. Due to her decade of work within the education field (and a bachelor’s degree in Child Development and Family Relations), she caught our eye and was hired as a Book Babies Literacy Coach in 2021.
Earlier this year (2023), Alisa officially became Book Harvest Durham’s Family Engagement Manager and is part of the team creating and growing Book Harvest’s family engagement work in Durham.
And today, we celebrate Alisa’s recent accomplishment: her Master’s Degree in Human Development and Family Studies from North Carolina Central University!! Summa cum laude!
Alisa acquired her esteemed master’s degree while working full time, raising her three children and puppy, and being a partner to her husband. Whew!
“Everything I do, I do for my kids,” Alisa said. “I went back to school to find myself and to prove that I can. They can. We can.”
The Book Harvest staff gathered together this week donning pink (Alisa’s favorite) and full of joy. We are so proud of and moved by Alisa — cheers to celebrating each other’s accomplishments!
