Book Harvest just announced that the bioMérieux Endowment Fund for Education has selected Book Babies Durham for a three-year philanthropic investment totaling EUR 197,953.

Last Wednesday, Book Harvest staff were invited to visit the Haliwa-Saponi Tribal School for a very special day of celebration: not only to honor Native American Heritage Month, but also to unveil the school's newly replenished library.

Book Harvest has secured a three-year philanthropic commitment to expand our Books from Birth program at Maynard Children’s Hospital and ECU Health Foundation, in partnership with ChildTrust Foundation and an anonymous donor!

Book Harvest announced today a three-year grant from an anonymous donor, made in partnership with the ChildTrust Foundation, to continue its Books from Birth program at Maynard Children’s Hospital, part of the ECU Health Foundation. From 2026 through 2028, more than 12,000 North Carolina newborns are expected to leave the hospital with a Books from Birth starter home library.

Literacy has a long history of being connected to civic participation, and in many cases served as a barrier to voting. In the past, literacy tests have been used to prevent racial minority groups from casting their vote. Low literacy rates continue to keep many eligible voters from engaging in the electoral process today.

This summer, we witnessed something extraordinary across North Carolina.
