Role at Book Harvest: As Volunteer Coordinator, Parker is responsible for cultivating, growing, and supporting a robust, multi-faceted group of volunteer community members to aid in many areas of Book Harvest’s work. He recruits, trains, manages, and retains all Book Harvest volunteers who perform a variety of essential functions, including book processing, event support, and maintenance.

Favorite Children’s Book Right Now: “The Spider and the Fly” by Mary Howitt and illustrated by Tony Diterlizzi

Likes & Loves: Parker enjoys learning languages, traveling, plant shopping, and spending time with friends and family.

Community Involvement: AmeriCorps and LiteracyCorps with Duke University

Where he studied: Bachelor of Arts in Contemporary European Studies and Peace, War, and Defense from UNC-Chapel Hill

Experience: Four years volunteer experience working with non-profits in North Carolina. Two years working at a book store.

What he’s hopeful for: That access to books will provide a perspective to children that they haven’t encountered before, creating inclusive, diverse, and accepting spaces.
