Book Box at Kiddie Kollege in Durham
Representatives of United Therapeutics (UT), Book Harvest, and United Therapeutics Daycare Center gathered together in Research Triangle Park on November 10th to celebrate National Children’s Book Week (November 8-14) and the announcement of UT’s $30,000 donation to Book Harvest. The $30,000 leadership grant will fund the creation of three new Book Boxes, as well as the first two years of books that will fill them! One of the three Book Boxes was installed earlier this fall at Kiddie Kollege in Durham.
In addition, United Therapeutics announced the donation of $1,000 specifically for purchasing age-appropriate books in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). They are also conducting a used book drive at their daycare center.
“In the spring of 2021, as we at Book Harvest were striving to help Durham’s children and families recover from the trauma and learning disruptions of COVID, we designed a new program to place Book Harvest Book Boxes stocked with high quality children’s books in neighborhoods where book access was a challenge. When United Therapeutics stepped up with a leadership grant to enable the creation and first two years of three of these Book Boxes, we knew we had a true partner who understood our vision that—regardless of family income—every child could grow up in a home that is rich with books.” said Ginger Young, founder of Book Harvest.
