Travelling Quite a Ways to Further the Book Harvest Mission

by Jeni Pierce

Hello, everyone! My name is Jenitza (Jeni) Pierce, and I am overflowing with joy to start serving at Book Harvest as a part of my work through the Johnson Service Corps! For those who have never heard of JSC, it’s a service organization that pairs young, bachelor’s degree-holding young adults with nonprofits in Chapel Hill and Durham as it provides too

ls and opportunities to grow us as servant leaders. I’m so excited to take part in the work that Book Harvest is doing to unite, inspire, and grow the local community by investing in the most imaginative, inspirational people in any community—the children!

I’ve traveled quite a ways to be a part of this incredible mission. I’m a native Texan, and I earned my bachelor’s in English Language and Literature from LeTourneau University. An itch to see more of the U.S. and a dream to learn how to build community through service prompted me to leave behind mom, dad, two younger brothers, and an old Pomeranian that my family was fond of pet sitting.

As a kid, I read anything that I could put my hands on, but my favorite thing to read was R.L. Stein’s Goosebumps series because I loved a chilling tale! I’ve peeked around in some of Book Harvest’s books and I’m glad to see lots of variety for any interests a kid can have.  I’m humbled to have the opportunity to witness the joy and impact of placing free books in the hands of children. Thank you for welcoming me to Book Harvest. May we share a powerful 11 months together!
