Seven Years of Book Drives: The Birthday Tradition That Keeps on Giving
Hendrix and his family have done it again!
If you’ve been a part of the Book Harvest community for a while, you’re probably familiar with Hendrix’s annual birthday book drive: every year since his first birthday, Hendrix and his family have run a community book drive for Dream Big.
That first book drive was in 2020, making this year their seventh annual book drive! Hendrix also turned seven this year, and alongside his little brother, Maxwell, and his parents, Lindsey and Gary, he has helped their family count, stack, and collect children’s books every year.
And we’re not talking about a few children’s books – not even a few hundred. This year, Hendrix’s family collected 1,364 books for the Dream Big Book Drive!

They exceeded their goal of 1,300 books through a remarkable community effort by friends, family, and neighbors. As Lindsey reflected in her annual recap post, “1,364 books collected because of kindness, generosity, and people showing up for kids. Thank you for reminding me that good is still everywhere.”
We feel the same: the Dream Big Book Drive is an annual reminder that community effort and collective action for children’s literacy and book ownership is not only inspiring, but also energizing, activating, and joyful. “We are changing the world,” Lindsey reflected, “One book at a time.”
We are so grateful to Lindsey, Gary, Hendrix, and Maxwell for starting this birthday book drive and continuing to fuel our local literacy efforts for so many years. They’ve donated a total of 6,496 books since 2020; that’s thousands of new favorite bedtime stories, cherished moments between caregivers and children, and growing home libraries.
From all of us here at Book Harvest: thank you!
