Meet the newest addition to our Book Babies team: Carolina Avary!
L to R: Team Leader Meytal Barak, Team Member Kenitra Williams, Team Member Carolina Avary
Carolina joined our team at the end of January and immediately jumped into the exciting busy-ness of home visits and getting to know our families–and she couldn’t love it more. “I love the work and am fully passionate about it,” she says. “I love the fact that the program has continuity and I’m already looking forward to going back to each house to visit the families again, to see the progress they’re making.”
A native of Colombia, Carolina came to the United States via Florida twenty years ago for work. While her background is in hospitality, she quickly learned that her passion was working with children and families–all because her daughter Sophia, now 11 years old, was a colicky baby. Through her own personal research about how to best care for Sophia, Carolina decided that she wanted to share what she had learned with other families who needed support, which initially led her to start her own business working with families with adopted newborns. She taught the families infant massage and helped them develop the tools to bond with their babies and help ease their transition, moving from working independently with 20 families to later becoming a certified infant resource specialist with an organization called Helping People Succeed.
Carolina came to North Carolina in 2013 because she wanted to live close to her family members here. She was also eager to find a bilingual public school for her children Sophia and Ethan, now 8, which she found in Frank Porter Graham in Chapel Hill and where she has been the PTA president for several years. When she’s not “changing the world one step at a time–that’s what we’re really doing [through Book Babies],” she is a runner and triathlete who loves pushing through struggles and helping people find the tools to overcome barriers to their success just as she has done all her life.
We are thrilled that Carolina has joined our amazing Book Babies team, and we hope you’ll introduce yourself to her and welcome her next time you see her in the office!
