Round Up Your Books!

Meet Gina Sprenger and Laura Ryan, this year’s book drive captains for the Dream Big Book Drive on MLK Day. We are just over a month away from the big event, and they are thrilled to report that 28 groups have already signed up to collect books for the big day!

“During the Dream Big Book Drive, I love seeing the cars pull up with boxes and boxes of books,” says Gina. “There is so much excitement when the donations start pouring in on that day! This is my second year volunteering to be the book drive captain because I know how much the children love the books that we collect.”

Among those running book drives are neighborhoods, local businesses, faith communities, preschools, a Girl Scout troop, an elementary school, a bookstore, and even individual families. We are thrilled that the Museum of Life and Science has also joined our ever-growing list of book drives, collecting books in their atrium from now until January 17!

Are you on the list? If not, now is the perfect time to make sure you are! Running a book drive for Dream Big is as easy as 1-2-3:

  1. Let us know you’re doing it! Register your book drive so we can add your book drive to our list.

  2. Spread the word! Use our template language or announcements and images to let folks know about your drive. Post to your neighborhood listserv, your Nextdoor network, your organization’s newsletter, your office bulletin board, your social media networks…

  3. Watch the books come rolling in! Bring them with you to Durham Central Park on MLK Day, or if you start running out of storage space, bring them by our office in advance! If you drop them off early, make sure you tell the person receiving your donation that the books are for MLK Day, and we’ll make sure we bring them to the event.

And don’t forget to mark your calendar to join us for the big day! Invite all your friends, neighbors, and co-workers to join us. Here’s a great video to help spread the word:
