Not only are the Carolina Hurricanes on a winning streak, they’re continuing their positive work within the local community. Last week, Shane Willis and representatives from the Hurricanes made their way to Durham to visit Book Harvest to make a very special gift.
As part of the team’s effort to lift up literacy in celebration of Black History Month, they donated $10,000 to Book Harvest to purchase as many new, culturally-inclusive books as possible — about 2,000! The books are being purchased through Scholastic, and will include titles like Change Sings, Ways to Make Sunshine, Jayla Jumps, and more!
While Book Harvest thrives on gently used book donations, we love being able to purchase new books, as well. This enables us to ensure that a healthy number of high quality books, specifically books that align with our Mirrors, Windows, and Sliding Glass Doors commitment, are making their way into the hearts and homes of young readers. It also allows us to purchase books right off our own wish list!
Due to the generosity of the Carolina Hurricanes, a wonderful storm of fresh children’s books is about to hit Book Harvest! 😉 But no umbrellas are needed here! We can’t wait! Thank you to Shane and the Canes Foundation for their support. Learn more about their community efforts here.
