Book Harvest helps families in public housing build home libraries

On the afternoon of March 2, a book Harvest team member walked into the Oxford Manor afterschool program wearing the Cat in the Hat’s signature red and white hat.

“It’s Dr. Seuss’s birthday!” “You’re the cat in the Hat!” “Can we help you carry your boxes?” came the excited chorus from the 13 students who greeted her. Ranging from kindergarten through middle school, the children already knew what the boxes were for. They were filled with books for young readers to choose from, to build their own home libraries.
