July 14, 2022
This spring we announced our goal of providing 100,000 books to children this summer. And guess what!? It’s only July 14th and WE PASSED IT! A massive 103,503 books (and counting!) have been harvested by kids since May!
Summer is incredibly important to Book Harvest, and we are passionate in our commitment to keeping learning alive to promote literacy-rich interactions at home and in the community. We are grateful to our many partners who help us with this summer work, including Durham County Library, Durham Parks and Recreation, and Durham Public Schools. Because of the help from our wonderful community, local children have access to high-interest, age appropriate, and culturally inclusive books at their summer camps, schools, local libraries, community events, and more!
And now the work continues! Just because we reached our goal early doesn’t mean we’re slowing down. In fact, the Book Harvest Block Party is this Saturday and we will have hundreds of books for children to choose from, then take home and keep forever! Plus, we have some surprises up our sleeves that will propel us through the rest of summer.
Thank you for helping us on our summer journey to 100,000 books…and now on our journey above and beyond!
