As Family Engagement Manager, Gia Parker is foundational to the organization’s ability to be a warm and inclusive public-facing organization. She manages the daily operations of Book Harvest Durham’s Family Space, serving as the face of the organization and owner of the visitor experience. Bilingual in English and Spanish, Gia provides strategic oversight for all Family Space programming—including bilingual storytimes and book clubs—ensuring a welcoming, safe, and literacy-rich environment for the children, families, and partners who visit daily.

Gia received her BA in Psychology and Spanish at James Madison University, then lived in Seville, Spain, where she worked as a Language Teaching Assistant to promote literacy and cultural awareness. In her current role, she leverages over seven years of experience in program coordination and event logistics to build deep, authentic partnerships with parents and caregivers. Beyond her public-facing leadership, Gia provides essential programmatic support to the Family Engagement team, managing data tracking, supervision of staff and volunteers, and serving as a designated Spanish-English translator for the organization. Gia is also a dancer and event organizer, having previously planned the largest dance showcase on the East Coast while serving as President of the Mozaic Dance Team.
